A film made by Dutch politician Geert Wilders was released in late March.

The release of Mr Wilders' film and the re-publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in Danish newspapers this year have led to protests in a number of Muslim countries. A recent car bomb attack on the Danish Embassy in Islamabad in June 2008 has been linked to the re-publication of the cartoons.

The initial publication of Danish cartoons about the Prophet Mohammed in 2006 led to protests across the Muslim world, some of which escalated into violence, resulting in more than 100 deaths and property damage to Danish interests.
